Emily Dickinson

Emily Dickinson (1830–1886) was an American poet who came from an influential Massachusetts family and wrote more than 1,800 poems focused on pain, grief, joy, love, nature, and art. While only ten of her poems were published in newspapers during her lifetime, they were printed anonymously. Filled with a powerful voice in writing, Dickinson engaged with friends and leaders through correspondence, but was known to have lived much of her life in isolation.
