Idries Shah (born Sayed Idries el-Hashimi, 1924–1996) was an Indian author and teacher in the Sufi tradition. Under the pen name Arkon Daraul he wrote dozens of books on psychology and spirituality, travelogues, and culture studies. He is considered a leading thinker of the twentieth century.
Dervish tales are more than fable, legend, or folklore. For centuries dervish masters have instructed their disciples by means of these teaching stories, which are said to increase perception and knowledge and provide a better understanding of man and the world.
