John Wooden (1910–2010) was an American men’s college basketball coach and author who focused on building character in his players at least as much, if not more so, as he focused on winning games. He led his teams to eleven NCAA titles, all the while encouraging his players to graduate and maintain high academic standards. His philosophies on leadership, integrity, and working together for a common purpose remain in wide use—in sports, self-development, and the business world.
For John Wooden’s millions of fans—a heartfelt and revealing self-portrait about the people and events that shaped his life Sports Illustrated declared: “There has never been a finer coach in American sports than John Wooden. Nor a finer man.
