Adjusting to Parenthood



While parenthood is lifetime of adjustments, there are specific and intense challenges we go through the first time our responsibilities suddenly expand to encompass of the entire well-being of those human beings now in our care. There are both universal and unique challenges for each of us, whatever the situations that brought children into our lives. Coping with the sudden unending stream of surprises, frustrations, and unmet—or impossible—expectations of ourselves and those around us can easily overwhelm us and cause us to lose our center. But there is an equal unending stream of advice, love, and care from those who have come before us, helping us on our way.
