The Hero’s Journey, also known as the monomyth, is an archetypal journey involving the events that a protagonist undergoes in their quest for some sort of ultimate goal. The study of the typical patterns of the Hero’s Journey was popularized by Joseph Campbell, who was influenced by Carl Jung’s work on archetypes. Many popular traditional and modern stories across cultures worldwide follow the typical structure of the Hero’s Journey, in which the hero encounters a catalyst that forces them from the comfort of their regular life, then goes on an adventure, during which they experience multiple hardships or obstacles in the process of obtaining their goal. Once they achieve victory, they come back home changed from their ordeal.
