Higher Calling

Some of us have experiences with the Divine that leave us with a deep impression of its intentions and desires. When we act on a higher calling, we believe we are acting on the behalf of the Divine to fulfill its intentions. These callings can be to specific tasks or moments, or they can be to causes that require lifelong dedication. Sometimes responding to a higher calling can bring about doubt and hesitation or criticism and judgement—especially if it calls for a drastic or unexpected change to our life course. Other times, we may seek for that special mission from the universe, but don’t seem to be led in any particular direction, leaving us full of self-doubt and feelings of abandonment. There are many healthy and productive ways to interpret and invest in these experiences that lead to deeper connection and well-being for ourselves and our communities.
