Integrity is the marriage of authenticity and responsibility. It is associated with having a strong sense of personal values and sticking to those values no matter the circumstances or consequences. Integrity takes a strong discipline of courage and honest self-reflection, and even though it can lead to lost opportunities or tense relationships when your values differ from those around you, it ultimately leads to trustworthiness, self-respect, and inner peace.
Muhammad Ali paid a huge price for his principles. While he never served a prison sentence, he was unable to ply his trade for more than three years while his case worked its way through the courts. The Supreme Court eventually ruled 8-0 in Ali's favor in June 1971.
