The language and tone we use to talk to ourselves both reflects and affects the way we see ourselves and how we think others see us. Studies have shown that speaking positively to ourselves—what is called positive self-talk—can rewire neural pathways in the brain to enhance physical performance, build confidence, increase focus, increase gratitude, motivate us, and build inner strengths. Noticing how we talk to ourselves can reveal a lot about our deepest fears, beliefs, and ideas, and using positive self-talk can help us adopt the beliefs and values we desire most.
