Reiki is a form of life force energy healing developed by the Japanese practitioner Mikao Usui in 1922. In a Reiki session, a practitioner seeks to transmit universal life energy to a client in order to create deep relaxation, speed healing, and reduce pain. Usually the practitioner places their hands close to or lightly touching the client’s body, but it can also be performed at a distance as a form of prayer or amplified with Reiki symbols.
