Search for Purpose

Searching for purpose is a uniquely human quest that seems to expand as we undertake the journey. We ask the questions of why we are here—ourselves specifically, or any of us at all—and what purpose our existence serves. Whether we believe that we have one specific destined purpose (or “true calling”) or whether we are just looking for something meaningful to do with our lives, we want to feel that there is a reason for our existence, that our time, energy, and actions—and above all, our suffering—have a point. This search fuels and sustains most of our spiritual journeys, and all religious traditions and philosophies are organized around the answer to this question.
