Spirituality and Politics



A recent study by The Fetzer Institute found that more than 80 percent of Americans consider themselves spiritual to some degree, and that those same people are also more likely to engage in politics than those who consider themselves non-spiritual. Spiritual practices often focus on values that are intimately connected to ethical issues and to political systems that may or may not uphold those values. Many honor their spiritual practices by moving those in power to uphold similar values in the public sphere, which can have far-reaching beneficial or harmful effects.
