While it can be said that the only constant in life is change, some of those changes are more deep-seated than others. When a change occurs that impacts a core part of our identity—whether regarding relationships, responsibilities, capabilities, or even geographic location—we can be said to be going through a transition. This is a period of learning to accept a new reality, letting go of old expectations, and discovering new answers to the question, “Who am I?” Periods of transition can be uncomfortably disorienting, but they also allow us to grow in beautiful and unexpected ways.
