Work Ethic

A work ethic is a set of values based on the ideals of discipline and hard work. Attitude, communication, cooperation, respect, timeliness, honesty, and productivity all factor into work ethic. There is no one ideal work ethic, but schools, workplaces, and families all benefit if members share a similar work ethic. Conflict can arise if a team’s expectations don’t resonate with each member’s work ethic: differing values on factors like quantity vs. quality, acceptable amounts of break time, and politeness vs. authenticity can produce tension and dissatisfaction. Creating a work ethic together can be a strong teambuilding activity in any context.
