Dr. Spiegel describes hypnosis as a state of highly focused attention that includes absorption, suggestibility, and dissociation. With the ongoing and devastating opioid epidemic, he proposed hypnosis as an alternative method to effectively reduce pain and support recovery. He illustrated a case in which hypnosis alleviated the pain of women with metastatic breast cancer by fifty percent without the need for drugs, as well as the lengthened survival time for those in the treatment group. As a co-founder of Reveri Health, he has teamed up with engineers to build hypnosis programming on-demand using Amazon’s Alexa device. Reveri Health is creating dissemination strategies, developing new platforms, and generating interactive apps to escalate the incorporation of therapeutic hypnosis in daily life.
