Representation is crucial. It shows LGBT people that they can live the life they want, regardless of their sexuality. It tells them they can be successful in their chosen career, whether that’s sport or business, irrespective of how they were born. It’s long past time for the world of sport to shake the deeply corrosive and harmful reputation of being homophobic. Sport must create a safe place for people everywhere to be open about their sexuality, without fear of repercussions.
