Single moms raising sons, and the impact of fatherlessness on boys is the topic for our panel tonight. For decades, the number of children in the United States living with a single parent has been climbing while marriage rates decline, and out of wedlock births increase as well. Studies show that worldwide, the USA has the highest percentage of children being raised in single parent homes, with about 25% of those under 18 living with just one parent and no other adult. Usually the solo caregiver is the child's mother. Many fathers are nowhere to be found, or sporadically appear in their child’s life. What struggles will a boy encounter when his father is missing from his life? Can women alone raise a solid son with confidence, ambition, and high self esteem? What are the keys to success?
