This is how resentment feels like. Distant. Mad. Disappointed. . We can get it by receiving continual demeaning comments or by the unreasonable demands of a boss, a parent or a partner. . “I just don’t know how to rid myself of this resentment!” - is a cry I hear too often. . Unfortunately, most relationships are troubled, not only by resentment but by the lack of honesty and transparency about them as well. . What would happen if we were honest with the other person about what's going on inside? . What would happen if we were honest with ourselves? If we honored ourselves by setting expectations in the first place? And setting those boundaries that we so easily let people cross? . I bet resentment would be reduced or even go away. . Because if I had to be 100% honest with you guys, I don't think we resent anyone. I think deep deep down we resent ourselves. Yep! For not sticking up for ourselves when we needed it the most, causing us to disconnect from our own emotions. . Now, I want you to change the script. Instead of: Resentment shows me what the other person did wrong. Try: Resentment shows me where my boundaries lay. . Instead of hiding from your resentment or repressing it, I invite you to embrace it, to allow it to return home, greeting it with open arms. . In this video, I invite you to Join me and the amazing Nedra Glover @nedratawwab, to sit down with our resentment in a compassionate way and invite it to our table to tell us the stories about our boundaries, with the intent that we’ll figure out what action is it that our resentment needs us to take.
