Yin/Yang

Yin is a term in Chinese philosophy to describe the side of material energy (or qi) that is characterized as female, passive, and sustaining, and is associated with earth, dark, and cold. It is the opposite of yang, which is the side of material energy that is characterized as male, active, and creative, and associated with heaven, heat, and light. Together yin and yang exemplify dualism in the natural world, highlighting that what may at first seem as opposing forces may instead be complementary, interconnected, and interdependent.
