Wake-up calls are those messages, events, or circumstances that jolt us to take stock of our life, behaviors, or beliefs. Many consider wake-up calls to be messages from a universe trying to get us back on track toward our purpose or a more fulfilling life. Sometimes they arrive softly, like a sudden stray thought that pops up over our morning coffee. Other times they can be either a close call or a painful or traumatic event. They can start as a small question that leads to a slow transition in habits or lifestyle, or they can shake our entire world and cause us to make large, abrupt changes. Once we start paying attention to these wake-up calls, we perceive and respond to the world in a decidedly different way than before. Painful as they can sometimes be, when we listen to, recognize, and interpret them wisely, we can use wake-up calls for the good.
