Unfortunately, with the near-constant presence of artificial light in the modern world (and the constant, instantaneous electronic access to stressors and stimulants, such as work emails, exciting television, or brain-grabbing video games), our sleep patterns have been deeply affected. Adequate good-quality sleep is a very important part of a healthy life, as it influences brain function, mood, hormone levels, weight, and a host of other bodily functions.
